The Matador Society

Honoring Your Gift Commitment

The Matador Society

During Texas Tech’s early years, campus architecture was carefully planned in the Spanish Renaissance style to honor the heritage of the southwest region. The wife of football coach E.Y. Freeland, inspired by the campus’s rich design, dubbed the university’s students the Matadors.

While traditions have shifted over the years and students are now called Red Raiders, the spirit of the Matador is still alive, and we continue to honor the early enthusiasm for the university and its pioneering supporters with the Matador Society.

The Matador Society, the planned giving society for the Texas Tech University System and its member universities, continues a rich tradition of support and allows our alumni and friends to plan for the future while honoring the past. Individuals who share documentation of their planned gift, no mater the amount of the gift or the age of the donor, are welcomed as members of the Matador Society and celebrated at our annual event.
